Jane Hammond at The Met

Jane Hammond's print Tabula Rosa is currently on view in The Costume Institute's spring exhibition Costume Art. This exhibition explores depictions of the dressed body across The Met’s vast collection, pairing garments with artworks to reveal the inherent relationship between clothing and the body.

Printed and published in 2001 by ULAE, Tabula Rosa is a large-scale inkjet print on handmade Japanese paper depicting the artist's full-scale nude self-portrait, seen from behind and covered with a range of "tattoos." This was the first print Hammond made using exclusively digital processes.

For more details about Tabula Rosa and Hammond's digital process in printmaking and photography, read Faye Hirsch's essay from Paper Work.
